a nice break for a lot of us, besides the temperatures in alas kachlt i'll get to that. in the western half of our country, pretty calm weather pattern. the storm system that was lingering in the northwest has moved northward and weakened as it went through the northern rockies. left with an onshore flow. that means warmer temperatures and moisture coming off the pacific. high pressure protects areas from utah to arizona all the way through california. we're not going to see too much bad weather or heavy rain. there are light showers right over the top of seattle heading up i-5 and up into the mountains. anywhere from portland northward, you'll have a chance of hit and miss showers, especially in washington state. temperaturewise, it's chilly in the inner mountain west. right along the coast, we've warmed up a little bit. typical for this time of year. should be gorgeous around los angeles to phoenix and there's a chance of showers on and off, especially washington state. usually that's the end of the forecast. but i've got to show you how cold it is this morning in alas

we just spoke with fremont police, they gave us the latest information. this happened around 11:00 last night. they got a call about domestic violence. when they showed up, they found a man naked outside the white house a knife. he had apparently chased his wife out. the wife is okay. when fremont police tried to get him to drop the knife, they ended up shooting him. he was transported to the hospital where he later died. two officers are now on paid administrative leave, which is standard operating procedure whenever there's an officer-involved shooting. one of the officers has been on the force for three years, the other's a set tran, having served the fremont police department over 20 years. as far as the suspect, the man who was shot and killed urge we don't have a name but we do know he is from san jose and he was roughly 37 years old. and as far as the wife is concerned, we know she wasn't hurt but we don't know where she is at now. she was living here with another woman, a room may. it was the roommate who called 911 to get the police out here arou

larry gerston joins us now. good morning, larry. as we watched all of those returns come in, folks definitely said that they wanted more money for education and a number of other things. is the problem solved? >> look, there's been some relief. no question. certainly in the short-term if we can use that description. proposition 30 will inject wean $7 billion and $9 billion in education over the next seven years. money that almost everyone said was badly needed. some other good budget news as well. passage of proposition 39. that's going to close a massive corporate tax loophole. that's important bringing in another billion dollars in and proposition of 36 is another one revising the three strikes that we've talked about that will enable 4,000 people now third strike inmates who have been in prison for nonviolent crimes to apply for release. when they do so, they'll be save the state $50,000 per inmate. that chunk of change multiplied toward 4,000 is $200 million a year. the state treasury will get a few bucks in the short-term. >> w
